THANK YOU to all who have participated in previous years. We hope this will fit your schedule and thank you in advance for your participation again in 2015. If you have not been able to be with us before, we encourage you to continue to read below, and hope you will consider volunteering for this worthwhile opportunity. Our volunteer force grows in number each year as nearly all feel they get back more than they give.
Mock Interview Day gives the senior class at Sun Valley High School the opportunity to experience a ‘real-world’ interview conducted by members from the ABA – and Friends of the ABA – volunteers such as you!
The seniors prepare a resume and job interview application letter. They bring these to one-on-one interviews of about 10-15 minutes with business and professional people. More interviewers allows us to give more time per interview. This gives them a realistic learning experience helping to prepare them for college or job interviews. The interviewers then complete a brief one page evaluation and include whatever comments they feel might improve or encourage that student. These are later reviewed by the faculty with the students.
The faculty tries to pair the student’s interest with an interviewer’s background as closely as possible. They tell me that the students look forward to this every year, and are actually disappointed when there are no additional comments on their evaluation review!
Mock Interview Day is Thursday, March 19, 2015. We presume the format will be the same as prior years. You are asked to arrive by 7:30AM for a brief introduction by Principal Pete Donaghy, and students will begin arriving at 8:00AM. Coffee and refreshments are provided. Ending time depends upon the number of volunteers, but has recently been concluding before 11AM. Please feel free to join us for whatever time you can spare. You are encouraged to tell others whom you think might be interested and available.
